First and foremost, you must first want to quit for yourself. I discussed internal and external motivators in my last post. Examples of internal motivators are feeling healthier or wanting not to smell of smoke. External reasons are quitting because your family wants you to stop. Those may be reasons you 'think' you want to quit, and your family and friends may have your best interest at heart. However, if you want to quit smoking permanently, your motivational level must be at an all-time high.
What's Your Level of Motivation? You must be at that point where you're dedicated to rid yourself of everything related to smoking. Have you heard the saying, "I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired"?
Are you at that point with cigarettes?
Perhaps, you've tried smoking cessation methods in the past and without much success. Does that mean you'll never quit? No, but you must honestly think about how motivated you are to reach your goal.
Here's one way to determine if your motivation is high. Using a scale from 1 to 10 (with 10 being passionately agree), ask yourself, "How much do I want to quit smoking"? If your desire and motivation is not at least an 8, you are not ready to stop.
Many people mistakenly think that hypnosis is a quick cure. Your hypnotist cannot make you quit smoking. Ultimately, your success depends on your taking responsibility and your level of motivation.
Dedication and a Positive MindsetAlong with a strong desire to quit, you must be dedicated to your success. You should commit to whatever method you want to use. If you're using hypnosis, you must be willing to read through worksheets or other resource material. Your hypnotherapist may also assign audios to help you between sessions. Regardless of the "extra" steps, be open to doing everything you can.
In addition to a strong commitment, you should develop a positive attitude about your success. A positive mindset will change your beliefs. You may have had several, unsuccessful attempts at stopping smoking. Don't let that deter you from trying again.
Believe in yourself and your ability to quit smoking. Expect to succesd, and you will. With a high level of motivation, you'll find success. A professional hypnotherapist can help you transition to becoming a nonsmoker. Hypnosis is effective and often easier than other methods you've tried in the past.
