In another blog post, I discussed stress and its negative affects on your health. Anxiety is another component of stress. When dealing with a stressful situation, our mind becomes anxious, and our body reacts to the negative thoughts. Anxiety can occur for a variety of reasons. Here are a few types.
Phobias are circumstances in which we react with high anxiety and feelings of avoidance. A phobia is an irrational, persistent fear of an object, person, animal, or situation. A couple of examples include agoraphobia and social phobias.
Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can be either acute or chronic, and general anxiety is present in both types. PSTD can be seen in people suffering an accident, disaster, or other significant loss.
Obsessive compulsive disorders (OCD) can be seen when a person tries to ignore or suppress conscious thoughts or desires to do a certain action. The condition can be mild or severe. An overall anxiety is present and can become debilitating in severe types.
Behaviour disorders are rooted in psychological stressors. Major symptoms are anxiety, nervousness, or worry.
Depending on the type of anxiety and its severity, a person may need to seek psychological help. In many cases (even in severe anxiety disorders), a person benefits from using both psychology and hypnotherapy.
Hypnotherapy is effective in treating emotional type of problems, such as anxiety and stress. A hypnotherapist is trained to help a person physically and mentally relax through guided suggestions. Once in a hypnotic state, called a trance, a person can approach the root cause of the problems. A therapist can use many techniques to help a person feel comfortable and reach their goals, which may be to relieve anxiety and increase confidence and self esteem.
It can be difficult for someone with anxiety to seek help, as their negative thoughts may prevent them from trusting another person or venturing out of their house. Take the first baby step, which is finding a hypnotherapist you feel comfortable with and can trust. Your therapist will ask you questions to help figure out your goals, as well as decide on the best method to use during your session.
Hypnosis in itself is a state of concentrated focus and relaxation. Your hypnotherapist will use words and imagery to help you calm your mind and relax your muscles. Since a person with anxiety may have trouble doing this, the therapist may try different techniques to help you slowly reduce negative or racing thoughts. As you become calmer, your body reacts by letting go of muscle tension and quicker, shorter breaths.
In your session , you’ll feel a great sense of calm. While your conscious mind distracts you with negative thoughts and emotions, you aren’t able to address the root of the problems, which lie in your subconscious. Your therapist will help you eliminate problem behaviour and increase positive actions and thoughts. The key is using hypnosis, whether by itself or in conjunction ith another therapy.
